The job duties of the Grounds & Facilities Maintenance Worker include but are not limited to performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance, upkeep, beautification, and repair of public facilities and public property including the areas of cemeteries, parks, rights-of-way, and municipal buildings; and to provide responsive, courteous, and efficient service to City residents and the general public.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This position is tasked with duties involving groundskeeping, mowing, equipment operation/repair, and facility maintenance in various locations maintained by the City of Edwardsville. This position works under the supervision of the Public Works Director and many of their duties will involve the coordination with Parks & Recreation staff. The position is expected to be able to accomplish their assigned duties while working alone or as part of a larger Public Works crew.
The Grounds and Facilities Maintenance Worker will be tasked with improving the general overall appearance of City parks and facilities and will need to exhibit attention to detail, beautification and general landscaping practices.
It is expected that the balance of duties will shift depending on seasonal conditions in the City Parks and Public Facilities, Cemeteries and Public Works. See attached description for a fuller account of the expected duties.
The City provides an excellent benefit package including benefits to begin the first of the next month after hire date. The City pays 100% of the employees benefits. Family package is a 90/10 split with the City paying the 90%.
Essential General Functions:
1. Complete a full range of grounds maintenance activities for the City grounds and cemeteries, including by but not limited to: Mowing, trimming and pruning, weed control application, fertilizing, seeding and watering, and leveling and seeding cemetery plots.
2. Inspection of City grounds, facilities, and cemeteries to make recommendations to the Public Works Director regarding maintenance needs.
3. Operation of a range of vehicles and tools used for City grounds and cemetery maintenance.
4. Prepare work records including time spent and materials used.
5. Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance duties.
6. Perform snow and ice removal operations.
7. Setup the Edwardsville Community Center when needed.
Cemetery Operations:
1. Trim, prune and remove trees and bushes as directed.
2. Plant, water, mow, weed and trim lawns as directed.
3. Empty trash cans weekly.
4. Apply weed control and fertilize as needed.
5. Remove trash and debris from the Cemetery.
6. Weed, prune and maintain established landscaped areas.
7. Install/repair fences, signs, fixtures and structures in the Cemetery, including benches and pergola.
8. Overseeding grass, barren areas, and spot repairs.
9. Plant flowers, bushes and trees as needed to enhance the aesthetics of the cemetery.
Public Works Operations:
1. Maintain and operate Public Works equipment, such as vehicles, mowers, skidsteers, chain saws, and other misc. equipment.
2. Mow and maintain public right-of-way.
3. Maintain and repair storm and sanitary sewers.
4. Patch potholes.
5. Facility maintenance which includes cleaning, painting, etc.
6. Shovel snow and treat ice on City facility sidewalks.
Parks and Public Facilities Operations:
1. Trim, prune, and remove trees as directed; chip brush.
2. Plant, water, mow, weed, and trim lawns.
3. Prepare fields (baseball, soccer, softball) for use by teams.
4. Install and/or maintain sprinkler systems.
5. Apply chemicals and fertilizers to trees, turf, and public grounds as needed.
6. De-litter parks, rights-of-way, City facilities and cemeteries.
7. Installation of and repairs of fences, signs, tables, and other fixtures and structures within public facilities.
8. General maintenance duties within City facilities, including light bulb changes, moving large items, painting, etc.
9. Set up and logistical support of City special events, including evenings and weekends.
