Purpose of the Post
To plan, develop, deliver, and evaluate teaching and training programs in alignment with the evolving objectives of Marymount's Education and Research Strategy, as it undergoes redevelopment. This role encompasses the delivery of varied education solutions on Specialist Palliative Care and palliative care in Services for Older People, addressing patient safety, risk, and quality improvement agendas, as well as meeting service improvement and person-centred care objectives. The post holder will work closely with relevant University College Cork (UCC) personnel in managing and developing the MSc and postgraduate modules in palliative care.
Professional development is a significant aspect of this position, with a dual focus on education and research. The post holder will contribute to the development and implementation of the Marymount Education and Research Strategy, participating in the Education and Research Steering Committee to ensure alignment with organisational goals. Flexibility is expected, with the ability to work across professional and team boundaries when necessary. The post holder will respond to the education and research needs of staff within the organisation as directed by the Chief Executive Officer, or nominated deputy, ensuring that all initiatives reflect current best practices in palliative care education and research.
Key Working Relationships
The success of this role will be significantly influenced by both internal and external relationships. Internally, key partnerships include the Chief Executive Officer, with whom strategic objectives are aligned; the Medical Team, particularly for clinical leadership; the Director of Nursing, to ensure comprehensive clinical strategy; and the Assistant Directors of Nursing, for maintaining high standards in patient care. Additionally, collaboration with School of Medicine at University College Cork colleagues is essential for fostering research, education, and innovation in healthcare. Externally, relationships with students support the development of future healthcare professionals, while interactions with patients & family members are crucial for delivering high-quality care experiences.
Eligibility Criteria Qualifications And/ Or Experience
A candidate must, on the latest date for receiving completed applications for the post:
* Hold a MB in Medicine; and
* Completed Higher Specialist Training (CSCST) or Vocationally Trained CSCST, with experience in Palliative Medicine; and
* Registered with relevant professional body as per area of expertise; and
* Willingness to adopt new procedures and undertake further appropriate training as required; and
* Experience in facilitating learning in classroom and clinical environment; and
* Evidence of continuing professional development; and
* Experience in facilitating teaching and learning using various teaching strategies and modes of delivery; and
* Have a minimum of 12 months experience of working clinically in palliative medicine.

Contract Type, Duration & Location
There is currently one two-year fixed-term contract (half-time) vacancy available. The post holder will be based at Marymount University Hospital & Hospice and University College Cork (a secondment agreement will be in place with the School of Medicine at University College Cork).
