Position Overview
Autodesk is looking for a DevOps / Site Reliability Principal Engineer to join the Autodesk Platform Services Team. The team delivers high-value, exabyte-scale data streaming platform powering desktop, mobile, and web products. This enables our product teams to build cohesive in-product data experiences, our partners to integrate, search and expand granular data across all Autodesk products.
You will report to the Senior Manager - Software Development based in Dublin, Ireland. You will be part of the team who creates amazing things and will learn from some of the best in the industry! This team operates in a hybrid working model from our office in Dublin.
Responsibilities
1. You will lead all aspects of DevOps, CI/CD, Observability, Alerting and Reliability; working to create and maintain the most reliable, secure, scalable and highly resilient data streaming platform.
2. You will lead team level DevOps and SRE outcomes and initiatives.
3. Configure, improve cloud infrastructure for service availability, resiliency, performance, and cost efficiency with increasing load over time.
4. Be accountable for SLOs of the services by driving and improving the process including service reviews, fire drills and HA assessment.
5. Create innovative solutions to monitor health checks of data streaming apps.
6. Keep system updated in time for security compliance.
7. Engage in technical discussions and technical decision-making.
8. Build tools to improve operation efficiency.
9. Serve as a primary point responsible for the overall health, performance, and capacity of our data streaming platform across Autodesk.
10. Exhibit steadfast leadership and make substantial contributions to large-scale, intricate projects that frequently entail collaboration among multiple engineers and cross-functional teams.
11. Drive the design, implementation, and management for expanding observability infrastructure, keeping up to date with new technologies.
12. Come up with innovative solutions for a resilient data streaming platform at scale.
13. You will collaborate with software architects, product managers, and software developers to iteratively transform high-level SRE, DevOps requirements into enhancements that are delivered incrementally.
14. Exhibit ownership of domain/large-scale platforms encompassing end-to-end responsibilities from Engineering Practices, Solutions, Quality, and Deployment to Support.
15. Lead sustainable incident response, blameless postmortems, and production improvements that result in direct business opportunities.
16. Automate deployment, scaling, and management of infrastructure using modern DevOps tools and practices.
17. Monitor and optimize system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions.
18. Implement and maintain configuration management and infrastructure as code (IaC) using Terraform.
19. Define and document best practices across all pillars of DevOps/SRE.
Minimum Qualifications
1. BS or MS in Computer Science or related technical field or relevant experience.
2. 9+ years of software engineering experience with proven experience in DevOps and SRE accountable for SLOs.
3. Hands-on experience working with AWS (Amazon Web Services) Demonstrate senior-level experience with development and deployment of AWS services, specifically S3, Lambda, SQS/SNS, and databases (Aurora, DynamoDB).
4. Understand and curiosity of SRE best practices, architectures, and methods.
5. Experience in Continuous Delivery, deployment with Terraform.
6. Excellent experience in Java, Python, Groovy and other programming languages.
7. Good knowledge on resiliency patterns and cloud security.
8. Proficiency in using observability tools such as Grafana, Splunk, Dynatrace, DataDog, OpenTelemetry, or Prometheus.
9. Experience with security compliance, such as SOC2.
10. Hands-on experience with data streaming, transformation, and ETL technologies.
11. Understanding of Apache Flink, Kinesis, Kafka and Kubernetes. Demonstrate experience of managing clusters of Kubernetes, Mesos etc.
12. Proven capability to lead incident response, drive root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures.
13. Expertise in DevOps / SRE practices, including IaC, configuration management, container technologies, microservices, CI/CD processes, etc.
14. Strong problem-solving skills and capability to work on complex systems.
15. Experience in working in an Agile environment.
16. Experience in working with distributed teams.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Passion to run and improve the customer facing systems with high degree of availability (four 9’s).
2. Experience with Databases and database design principles at cloud scale.
3. Demonstrated experience leading complex, large-scale cloud and data streaming projects involving multiple teams/functions.
4. Passionate about building and motivating engineering teams, experience with driving organizational strategic initiatives.
5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience collaborating in a dispersed multicultural team to deliver projects, sometimes responsible for leading initiatives.
6. A perpetual learner and often find yourself ideating about new and improved ways of doing things and are confident to share your ideas with the rest of the engineering team.
7. Demonstrates mature judgment when making engineering decisions, and can reliably make the call between elegant and practical solutions.
