Position Summary:
Our Mechanical Team Leaders will manage and lead a team of employees by communicating company goals, safety practices, and deadlines to the team. They will motivate team members, assess performance, provide help to management, including hiring and training, and keep management updated on team performance.
Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate with Manufacturing Manager at the start of each shift to establish clear expectations for work to be completed during the shift and report out at the end of each shift to summarise status of work completed.
2. Effectively manage performance of team members, addressing any ongoing issues through the company’s disciplinary/grievance procedures if required.
3. Provide performance review input and participate in interviewing new hire candidates.
4. Plan project activity for the shift and assign mechanical team members appropriate tasks.
5. Oversee mechanical team members during the shift to assure compliance with all safety policies, quality practices & productivity expectations applicable to the work being performed.
6. Provide real-time guidance to mechanical team members to address any issues affecting completion of planned work assignments (technical, procedural, material-related, etc.).
7. Report project needs, material requirements, and any planning & scheduling issues that are affecting planned work activities to Manufacturing Manager to assure manpower resources can be utilised in the most effective and efficient manner.
8. Maintain and promote communication with and among team members to ensure common understanding of purpose, methods and progress toward committed goals.
9. Interact as necessary with Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, and other Team Leads to obtain/provide information necessary to resolve problems and progress work.
10. Participate in Team Leader/Shop Floor meetings, project meetings, design reviews, or other similar meetings as may be required to share important information.
11. Support employee training activities to help assure accurate understanding of technical requirements, as well as productivity expectations of the job.
12. Review and approve mechanical team member paid time off request forms.
13. Maintain security and secure the building at the end of the shift.
14. Execute other tasks as assigned.
15. Ability to travel when required.
16. Review and approve weekly time and attendance for payroll.
17. Play an active role in identifying and driving Continuous Improvement (CI) opportunities.
Qualifications:
1. Leaving Certificate or equivalent.
2. Experience in Mechanical Assembly and Welding.
3. Typical work is in a manufacturing environment or customer's site.
4. Required to stand for long periods of time and may involve heavy manual labour.
5. Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, reach, lift, push, pull, and carry items. Exposure to loud noises.
6. Ability to wear personal protective equipment.
7. Awareness of and prior experience with implementing Continuous Improvement (CI) is a plus.
8. Prior Lean/Six Sigma experience is a plus.
