A vacancy has arisen within the Radiology Department of the Galway Clinic for the above permanent full-time position.
The role:
1. Undertake primary responsibility on a day-to-day basis for the Ultrasound service and effective utilisation of all resources.
2. Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership and be accountable for the quality of the Ultrasound service provided, including patient service and technical aspects.
3. Contribute to the development and implementation of operational policies, protocols and guidelines.
4. Advise on equipment selection, purchase, replacement or upgrading.
5. Contribute to the preparation of plans for the Ultrasound service, and monitor and report on their implementation.
6. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of clinical, technical and professional developments in relation to Ultrasound and promote awareness of new developments, ensuring that best practices are implemented and maintained.
7. Report all Ultrasound operational issues to the Radiography Services Manager as appropriate.
8. Contribute to departmental risk assessments, identify risks and take appropriate actions.
9. Support the Radiography Services Manager and Radiology Clinical Director in the implementation of initiatives aimed at ongoing service development and improvement.
10. Undertake abdominal/gynaecological/obstetric (dating), vascular ultrasound examinations and issue correctly phrased written reports, detailing findings of these examinations recorded in the RIS system.
11. Ensure that appropriate action is taken in the event of anything other than normal appearances during all ultrasound examinations.
12. Supervise less experienced staff members in the performance of ultrasound scans.
13. Assist with the training in ultrasound scanning of radiographers, radiologists and other disciplines as required.
14. Demonstrate expertise in difficult situations.
15. Participate in routine daily inspections of equipment and quality assurance procedures and report any defects or problems.
16. Participate in the on-call rota of the Radiology department.
17. Perform role-related duties as assigned.
The Candidate:
1. Bachelor of Science or its equivalent in Diagnostic Radiography.
2. Post Graduate qualification in Ultrasound (MSc preferred).
3. A minimum of 6 years’ experience working in Ultrasound.
4. Proven Clinical, Leadership, Project Management, Managerial & Customer Care skills.
5. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
6. Flexibility in work practices.
