The Naval Service offers various direct entry pathways. A direct entrant is one who enters a rank directly in the Naval Service, without going through recruit training.

The Naval Service is based in Haulbowline, Cobh, Co. Cork, and is the State's primary seagoing agency with a general responsibility to meet contingent and actual maritime defence requirements.

Job Description: Radio Radar Technician
A Radio Radar Technician maintains, repairs, and supports critical communication, radar, and electronic navigation systems onboard Naval Service vessels and at shore-based facilities.
* Manage, maintain, and crew the ship while keeping it operational.
* Assist in emergency response situations, including fire-fighting and damage control duties.
Essential Requirements
To be eligible for this role, applicants must:
1. Be a citizen of the Irish State or have a legal entitlement to reside and work in the State.
2. Meet good character and satisfy any security clearance required during the recruitment process.
3. Meet minimum standards of medical and physical fitness assessed during the recruitment process.
4. Be between 18 and 39 years old on date of application.
Professional Qualifications
Candidates must hold one of the following qualifications:
1. B. Eng in Electronic Engineering (HETAC Level 7).
2. B. Eng in Marine Electrotechnology (HETAC Level 7).
3. B. Eng Ordinary Degree in Electronic Engineering - Military Communication Systems (Carlow).
4. National equivalent of any of the above.
Recruitment Process
Candidates will undergo a fitness test, competency-based interview, medical assessment, and Garda Vetting process.
Pay and Allowances
Applicants receive a competitive basic salary of €49,543 with yearly increments and additional allowances.
