IOC-22 Postdoctoral Researcher in Mixed-Signal Design for Precision Circuits
Contract: Full Time/Fixed Term
Microelectronic Circuits Centre Ireland (MCCI) is a leading technology centre that aims to deliver world-class Analog, Mixed-Signal and RF integrated circuit research to industry. With a strong focus on collaboration with industry partners, MCCI has already established partnerships with 35 companies and has successfully transitioned staff into the thriving microelectronics industry in Ireland.
The challenges posed by the Internet of Things (IoT) have created significant demands on Integrated Circuit Chips, requiring innovative solutions to meet the needs of next-generation IoT applications. As microelectronics chips are manufactured in ever-smaller geometries, the performance of Analogue and Mixed-Signal circuits degrades, while digital logic becomes cheaper, smaller, and lower power.
MCCI is now seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to contribute to its research team in the area of Analogue Mixed-Signal Design for Precision Circuits. This role will encompass a range of areas, including:
* Analogue to Digital Converters
* Sensor Interfaces
* Medical Instrumentation
* Cryogenic Circuits
Key Responsibilities:
* Carry out innovative research in Analogue Mixed-Signal IC Design, taking advantage of deep-submicron CMOS technologies.
* Perform modelling and analysis on the limitations of existing solutions.
* Participate in research projects under the direction of a project team leader to design and develop new architectures and circuits in areas such as Data Converters, Precision Circuits, Sensor Interfaces and Cryogenic Circuits.
* Implement the solution on an integrated circuit, including system level simulation, algorithm development, schematic design, layout and validation of manufactured silicon.
* Collaborate with industry partners on research projects.
* Disseminate the results of the research, as directed by senior MCCI research staff.
* Participate in Education and Public Engagement activities, as required.
* Ensure all activities comply with the Tyndall Quality Management system and Health and Safety standards.
* Perform additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.
Essential Criteria:
* PhD degree in Microelectronics, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline, with a strong background in Analog Mixed Signal Design.
* Strong knowledge of CMOS circuits, including references, data converters and optical communication.
* Strong knowledge of CMOS CAD design tools.
* Highly innovative with a strong desire to create world-beating integrated circuits research for real-life applications.
* Highly analytical with good interpersonal and organizational skills.
Desirable Criteria:
* Previous silicon Tape-out experience.
* Good mathematical ability and knowledge of statistics.
* Circuit knowledge on Analogue to Digital converters and Phase Locked Loops.
* Experience in Analog, Mixed-Signal or RF circuit design.
* Knowledge of mathematical modelling tools such as MATLAB.
* Strong Publication track record.
