Applications are invited for a temporary post of IT Officer within UCD National Virus Reference Laboratory. The National Virus Reference Laboratory (NVRL) plays an important role in the Irish Health Services as the principal diagnostic and reference service for clinicians investigating virus infections. The laboratory offers approximately 170 tests for the diagnosis of at least 45 different pathogens and the current workload involves performing in excess of 1 million tests per annum. The NVRL is also accredited by the Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB) to undertake testing as detailed in the Schedule bearing the Registration Number 326MT, in compliance with the International Standard ISO/IEC rd Edition "Medical laboratories - Requirements for quality and competence". The diagnostic function of the laboratory is controlled through the Laboratory Information System (LIS) namely CliniSys WinPath/Enterprise. This system is key to the successful operation of the NVRL as the LIS is interfaced with a wide range of analyzers utilized to test patient samples. The system is also utilized to issue hardcopy and electronic patient reports, invoicing data and clinical notifications to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre and public health.
