Job Title: Commissioning Engineer – Substation Projects

Job Overview:
We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Commissioning Engineer to join our team and contribute to the successful commissioning of electrical systems on substation projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in testing, troubleshooting, and finalizing the installation of electrical equipment, ensuring systems are functioning optimally and safely. You will work closely with project teams, contractors, and clients to ensure that all systems meet technical, safety, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Commissioning of Substation Equipment: Lead commissioning activities for various electrical equipment within substations, including transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, protection relays, and control systems.
2. System Testing and Verification: Conduct detailed system tests, including insulation resistance, continuity testing, and functional tests for protection, control, and automation systems.
3. Troubleshooting: Identify, analyse, and resolve any issues or faults during the commissioning process, ensuring minimal delays and maintaining project timelines.
4. Documentation & Reporting: Prepare comprehensive commissioning reports, including test results, procedures, and any issues encountered during commissioning. Ensure all documentation is accurate and compliant with industry standards.
5. Safety Compliance: Ensure commissioning work complies with health, safety, and environmental regulations, adhering to company and industry best practices for safety.
6. Client Coordination: Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and project teams to ensure that all commissioning activities are aligned with project requirements and timelines. Provide updates on progress and any concerns.
7. Final Handover: Facilitate the handover process to the client, ensuring all systems are fully operational and meet the agreed performance standards.
8. Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the development of best practices, methodologies, and process improvements for future commissioning projects.
Key Requirements:
1. Experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience in commissioning or testing of electrical equipment, preferably within substation environments or power transmission projects.
2. Educational Qualifications: Degree or relevant qualifications in Electrical Engineering or a related field. An electrical trade qualification or apprenticeship is also acceptable.
3. Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of substation equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, protection relays, and SCADA/PLC systems. Experience with commissioning testing tools and diagnostic equipment is required.
4. Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with industry standards, including IEC, IEEE, and local electrical codes and safety regulations.
5. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex technical issues quickly and effectively.
6. Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, clients, and stakeholders.
7. Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel to various project sites for commissioning activities, sometimes requiring extended periods away from home.
8. Experience with renewable energy projects or high-voltage systems.
9. Familiarity with SCADA or automation systems in electrical substations.
10. Previous experience working on large-scale substation projects or grid integration.
