Job Overview:
Corporate governance comprises of the systems and procedures by which organisations are directed, controlled and managed. SETU should serve the interests of Government as shareholder, students and all other stakeholders, and pursue value for money in all endeavours, including managing risk appropriately. SETU should act prudently, ethically and with transparency as a public entity and should conduct all activities consistent with statutory responsibilities and in the public interest.
Governance requirements arising from the provisions of the TU Act are statutory obligations and in addition the Governing Body of SETU has approved an Interim Code of Governance. The Governing Body is accountable for governance and the SETU Executive Management Team are accountable for the proper management of the University. Good governance encourages better informed and longer-term decision-making as well as the efficient use of resources. It strengthens accountability for the stewardship of resources and is characterised by robust scrutiny which places ongoing emphasis on improving public sector performance. This role will be a key component in the governance framework of the University and the post holder will play a crucial role in supporting University Secretary/Vice President Governance, management team in the area and the Governing Body in ensuring and reporting upon effective governance within the University.
Key Responsibilities/Duties include:
1. Providing day to day administrative support to the University Secretary/Vice President Governance and the management team in the area.
2. Providing administrative support, information and communications related to Governing Body and Governing Body Committee members and being a key point of contact for Governing Body.
3. Timely preparation and monitoring of workplans for Governing Body and Governing Body Committees.
4. Timely development of agendas in line with workplans and key strategic activities of the University.
5. Collation (and where appropriate preparation) and distribution of Governing Body information, attendance at Governing Body meetings as recording secretary.
6. Collation (and where appropriate preparation) and distribution of Governing Body Committee and Subsidiary Company information, attendance at Governing Body Committee and Subsidiary Company meetings as recording secretary.
7. Liaising with the President’s Office to ensure cohesiveness between the workplan of Governing Body and Executive Management.
8. Updating, developing and providing input into key documents, reports and communications.
9. Taking responsibility for ensuring the completeness key tasks such effectiveness reviews and corporate returns e.g. SIPO.
10. Taking responsibility for accurate record keeping and document retention in relation to governance and compliance matters.
11. Facilitating or being involved in key projects being undertaken by the University Secretary/Vice President Governance and the management team in the area.
12. Engaging with internal and external stakeholders including e.g. EMT, HEA, DFHERIS, C&AG and providing those stakeholders with appropriate information and support.
13. Providing supervision or direction to other members of the team.
14. Any other relevant duties that may be allocated.
