Do you have a knack for keeping things moving smoothly, even in the midst of chaos? Are you a master of organization with a keen eye for safety? We're on the lookout for exceptional Traffic Management Operatives (TMOs) to join our team. In this role, you'll be the unsung hero ensuring the safe and efficient flow of traffic through roadworks in both rural and urban settings, minimizing risk and delays for everyone. This vital work aligns with Chapter 8 of the Road Traffic Signs Manual by the Department of the Environment.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Setting up Traffic Management Systems: TMOs are responsible for implementing traffic control measures according to the traffic management plan. This involves setting up traffic cones, signs, barriers, mass guards, traffic lights, and other equipment.
2. Traffic Flow Count: They monitor traffic flow patterns and adjust traffic control measures as necessary to minimize congestion and ensure safety for both drivers and workers.
3. Safety Procedures: TMOs enforce strict safety procedures to protect themselves, their team members, and the general public. This includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring that all traffic control measures comply with safety regulations.
4. Communication: Effective communication is key. TMOs often liaise with other team members, supervisors, and sometimes the public to provide information on traffic diversions, road closures, or other relevant updates.
5. Emergency Response: In emergency situations, TMOs may be required to respond quickly to re-route traffic or implement emergency traffic management measures to facilitate the work of emergency services.
6. Documentation and Reporting: They maintain records of traffic management activities, including any incidents, changes to traffic control plans, or safety concerns. This documentation is important for compliance and future planning purposes.
7. Adherence to Regulations: TMOs must be familiar with and adhere to local and national traffic management regulations and guidelines. This ensures that all traffic control measures are legal and effective.
