Job Description:
An Anaesthetic Staff Nurse is a vital member of our multidisciplinary team, contributing to the efficient and effective delivery of high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage time and resources, demonstrate leadership, and maintain clinical expertise while adhering to NMBI guidelines to advance nursing practices.
* Provide support to the Clinical Coordinator and communicate effectively regarding operational needs.
* Oversee daily operational requirements and collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless service delivery.
* Ensure the safe operation of medical equipment and maintain adequate supplies in an optimally arranged clinical setting.
* Comply with internal departmental controls and hospital-wide regulatory requirements.
Clinical Responsibilities:
The role requires adherence to The Professional Scope of Practice Framework (NMBI 2000), ensuring that each patient receives an individualised assessment of their needs, a structured care plan is developed, implemented, and evaluated, and patients receive care in a safe, clinically appropriate environment, following hospital policies and guidelines.
* Document professionally, legibly, and in a timely manner.
* Act as a deputy for the Clinical Coordinator when required.
* Contribute to problem-solving initiatives and system improvements within the department.
* Follow standard infection control precautions, including the appropriate use of protective barriers and the correct disposal of infectious waste.
Interdepartmental Collaboration:
Foster and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, physicians, patients, families, and external agencies. Communicate effectively with the Clinical Coordinator throughout the shift and exhibit the ability to delegate tasks and responsibilities appropriately.
* Engage in ongoing collaboration with physicians and healthcare providers to optimise patient outcomes and meet unit goals.
* Actively participate in department-based and interdepartmental quality improvement initiatives.
* Support and assist colleagues as needed.
* Be cross-trained and available for allocation to PACU when required.
Personal & Professional Development:
Maintain a professional portfolio and take advantage of opportunities to educate patients and their families. Attend relevant study days and training courses and serve as a preceptor or mentor for students and newly appointed staff.
* Engage in performance reviews with the Nurse Manager.
Educational Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the Nurse Manager, contribute to the continuous improvement of learning opportunities within the clinical area, support the induction and training of new nursing and support staff, and take responsibility for personal learning and professional development.

Person Specification:
A Registered General Nurse (NMBI) with Certification in BLS & ACLS, at least one year of post-registration experience in an acute hospital setting, preferably in Anaesthetics, and proven clinical expertise and strong communication skills are required.
* Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and demonstrate motivation and dedication to the role.
* Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely.
* Planning & Organisation: Effective planning, organisational, and time management skills, flexibility in relation to shift rotations, including night duty, theatre on-call, and other rostered requirements.
* Technical & Clinical Knowledge: Recent and relevant experience in anaesthetics and acute care settings, awareness of advancements and national strategies in specialised nursing care, and up-to-date BLS and ACLS certification.
* Patient & Customer Focus: Commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.
