Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Production Manager or Skilled Fabrication Supervisor/Lead to oversee the fabrication and production operations at Cental Engineering, Carlow. The ideal candidate will manage the daily fabrication activities, ensuring high-quality, on-time delivery of heavy-engineering modular build solutions for the HV and data centre industry. A critical part of the role involves reviewing designs and drawings to identify potential issues before fabrication begins, minimising errors and rework. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, technical knowledge, and a focus on Lean manufacturing, safety, and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
* Fabrication Process Management: Oversee daily operations of the fabrication team, ensuring targets for quality, safety, and productivity are consistently met.
* Design & Drawing Review:
o Collaborate with engineering and design teams to review technical drawings and designs before fabrication begins.
o Identify potential issues or discrepancies in designs, resolving them early to prevent costly mistakes or delays.
o Provide feedback on designs from a fabrication and manufacturability perspective, ensuring drawings are feasible for production.
* Problem-Solving from Drawings:
o Demonstrate the ability to foresee potential fabrication issues by carefully analysing technical documentation and blueprints.
o Work closely with engineers to clarify design intent and resolve ambiguities or conflicts within drawings.
* Team Leadership: Lead and mentor the fabrication team, fostering a culture of open communication, accountability, and continuous improvement.
* Lean Manufacturing: Implement Lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance productivity. Lead the application of IL6S and TPM methodologies into daily operations.
* Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Promote and enforce a strong culture of health, safety, and environmental compliance, ensuring all operations align with QEHS standards and regulations.
* Quality Assurance: Maintain high standards of quality control throughout the fabrication process, conducting reviews and ensuring customer specifications are consistently met.
* Resource and Inventory Management: Ensure efficient use of resources and raw materials, with proper inventory management systems in place to support production and minimise downtime.
* Project Management: Support and coordinate the planning and execution of key projects, ensuring timely delivery while meeting budgetary and technical requirements.
* Collaboration: Liaise with cross-functional teams including engineering, supply chain, and project management to ensure alignment on design, production, and delivery goals.
* Cost Control: Monitor and manage production costs, optimising efficiency and reducing waste without compromising product quality.
* Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify opportunities for continuous improvement, driving initiatives to enhance operational performance and cost-effectiveness.
Key Requirements:
* Experience:
o Minimum 5+ years’ experience in production or fabrication management, ideally in heavy engineering or modular build environments.
o Proven experience in reviewing and interpreting complex engineering drawings and technical documentation.
o Strong background in identifying and resolving potential design or fabrication issues before production begins.
o Hands-on experience with Lean manufacturing, IL6S, TPM, and continuous improvement methodologies.
* Education:
o Relevant technical or engineering qualification is essential.
o Knowledge or certification in Lean manufacturing or Strategic Quality Management is advantageous.
* Skills:
o Ability to read, interpret, and review technical drawings and blueprints to ensure accurate fabrication processes.
o Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams.
o Analytical thinker with problem-solving abilities, particularly in identifying root causes and implementing solutions.
o Familiarity with manufacturing safety protocols and best practices.
o Solid project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
o Experience with production planning and inventory control is a plus.
