Principal Automation Engineer
Position Summary
As our Principal Automation Engineer, you will:
1. Drive a culture of automation, innovation and continuous improvement.
2. Have technical oversight of multiple automation projects and provide support for engineers developing and implementing projects, while working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of automated systems.
3. Exhibit deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and strong leadership capabilities to develop and implement automated solutions that enhance operational efficiency and product quality.
4. Devise, lead, and manage engineering programs from concept through to production readiness.
5. Mentor and develop engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
What you will do:
1. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities and prioritize initiatives.
2. Develop technical solutions to complex problems requiring in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
3. Lead the design and implementation of automation strategies across projects.
4. Oversee design, development, testing, and refinement of automated systems, sub-systems, and components.
5. Support code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards. Develop and maintain automation frameworks and tools to streamline processes.
6. Develop documentation for automated systems to allow for standardization, including Dynamic URS, simplified change control for automated systems, and automation systems specifications that meet the requirements of different standards.
7. Act as a technological expert, willing to source, investigate, and implement technological and automation advances.
8. Become the technical leader of engineers working on automated systems. Oversee automation projects from conception to execution, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
What you will need:
Required
1. BS in Engineering Level 8 Honours Degree
2. A minimum of 8 years of automation engineering/systems experience.
Preferred
1. Strong understanding of automated control systems such as Allen Bradley & Siemens, robotics, and industrial automation. Proven experience with automation tools (e.g., PLC, SCADA, HMI).
2. Demonstrable ability to lead significant projects and initiatives.
3. Technological expertise, willingness to source, investigate, and implement technological and automation advances, and capability to technically lead a multi-disciplined team.
4. Confidence and effectiveness in decision-making, with proven technical leadership ability to negotiate and influence others.
5. Experience in Automated Packaging, Blasting, Linishing, Polishing, deburring, and Masking is desirable.
