Position Summary: We are looking for a Healthcare Assistant to join our dynamic team of healthcare professionals to provide high quality patient centred care in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care setting.The post holder is expected to provide high quality patient centred care to the Theatre Department to include Theatres, Minor Procedure Rooms, Day Theatres including any future expansion of the Theatre Department.The post holder works as part of the multi-disciplinary team, establishing and maintaining good working relationships aimed at delivering a high standard of care. The post holder is required to develop additional clinical skills pertinent to the specialty.
Responsibilities
· To assist the theatre/surgical team in the care of patients, their families to includetreatment, preventative care, screening and patient education. To assist with equipment/instruments etc. The post will also include some administrative duties.· To be accountable and responsible for own actions and to know the content of their own Beaumont Hospital policies, guidelines and competencies relevant to practice.· Maintain knowledge of and work in adherence to all Beaumont Hospital Standard Operating Procedures and policies.· To develop specialist knowledge and skills relating to their designated working environment.· To ensure the highest possible standards of patient care and patient safety are maintained at all times in line with national and local policies, procedures and guidelines as well as utilising evidence based practice. MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 1. To assist with the administrative function of the theatre team including the accurate documentation of records e.g Legionella Flushing2. Liaise with Beaumont Hospital decontamination department with regard to instrument etc. for delivery and for return to Beaumont. 3. Receive delivery of instruments and prepare for use.4. Preparation, pack and prepare instruments for transport.5. To assist with ensuring that clinical waste collection runs smoothly, reporting any problems to the theatre manager or nurse in charge.6. Ensure sharps bins are secure and ready for collection.7. Restocking of clinical areas and consulting rooms with the senior nurse.8. To attend satellite units as required.9. To participate in audit where appropriate and requested.10. Assist the senior nurse/CNMs to ensure accurate and legible documentation.11. Assist the nursing team to ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports.12. Attend and participate in surgical team meetings as required.13. Compile stock list on a regular basis and ensure stock levels are maintained in the clinical areas and store rooms.14. To fulfil any additional duties as reasonably requested and required. COMMUNICATION: 1. Communicates with all patients and members of the multidisciplinary team in an appropriate and professional manner at all times2. Reports any unsafe or unprofessional practice to the CNM.3. Promotes dignity and respect in the workplace amongst colleagues. The applicant must commit to undertake specific courses to enhance their knowledge and skill set, including following the local education pathway as well as attending other relevant courses/study days.
Qualifications
Mandatory Qualifications: In exercise of the power conferred on me by Section 22 of the Health Act 2004, I hereby approve the qualifications, as set out hereunder, for the appointment and continuing as a Health Care Assistant. 1. Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc (a) Canidates must, on the latest date for receipt of applications, hold: (i) The relevant health Skills FETAC Level 5 qualification **(8 modules must be completed. Mandatory modules that must be completed as part of the 8 modules are Infection, Prevention & Control, Communication and Care Skills)** OR (ii) An equivalent relevant health care qualification AND (iii) Be currently employed as a Health Care Assistant or a comparable role AND (b) Candidates must have the personal competence and capacity to properly discharge the duties of the role 2. Age Age restriction shall only applu to a candidate where s/he is not classified as a new entrant (within the meaning f the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2004). A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 65 years if age in the first day of the month in which the latest date for receiving completed application forms for the office occurs. 3. HealthCandidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable ofundertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as wouldindicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.4.
