Senior Engineer - System Integrity - GOP (E2025121)
We are the people behind Ireland’s electricity grid. We operate the power system with world leading levels of variable asynchronous renewable generation, ensuring that everyone has power when they need it. But that’s not all, we are now transforming the power system for future generations.
And that’s just the beginning of our story. We have a critical purpose. That purpose is to transform the power system to enable our society to reduce our carbon emissions and meet our climate change and net zero ambitions.
The Opportunity
The role of Senior Engineer will support the System Integrity team in ensuring that it fulfils its objectives in relation to the various technical requirements. The role holder will work with the team in the area of generation outage planning. Work with colleagues, customers and stakeholders to plan the operation of the power system from years out up to a fortnight ahead of real time operation. Schedule outages of transmission equipment by performing power system studies including load flow, voltage stability and short circuit studies to check compliance with Operating Security Standards. Provide guidance on the impact of planned or proposed activities on the day-to-day operation of the National Control Centre to enforce compliance with the Operating Security Standards, the Infrastructure Agreement, existing legislation and internal processes and procedures. Liaise closely with key stakeholders including ESB Networks, generators, the Regulatory Authorities and other areas within EirGrid including System Operations, Customers and Connections, Engineering & Asset Management, Network Projects, Connection Projects and the Project Management Office.
The Team
The Operations and Asset Management Office is central to the delivery of our primary role – the operation, development and enhancement of the power system and the wholesale electricity market. The Office is also responsible for the sustainable implementation of transmission system and market development to meet the future needs of all users of electricity.
The System Integrity function manages a wide range of technical functions. The function is responsible for Power System Protection, Transmission Outage Planning (TOP) and Generator Outage Planning (TOP), Revenue Metering for transmission connected generation and the controlled introduction of new and recently maintained plant to the power system. The work of the function is critical to enabling EirGrid to operate a safe, secure power system, facilitate the maintenance of transmission and generation assets, to facilitate system development and the connection/commissioning of new customer connections. The function closely supports the real time and near time operational activities in the National Control Centre.
