Excellent opportunity for an Operations Engineer to join Waterways Ireland in Carrick On Shannon.The Operations Engineer will oversee management, maintenance and future development of Waterways Ireland infrastructure in the Shannon Navigation Area as required. This role is a fixed term position for approximately 12 months and will offer a hybrid working model (3 days from home and 2 days in the office).
Overview of your responsibilities (full job description available on request):
* Supervise staff on maintenance and construction, ensuring safety compliance.
* Coordinate with consultants and contractors to protect assets.
* Conduct site surveys and produce project reports.
* Prepare designs, planning submissions, and manage tenders for projects.
* Track project progress to ensure timely, safe, and cost-effective delivery.
* Review planning applications affecting regional property.
* Engage with volunteers and event organisers to enhance community involvement and recreation.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required for the Role:
* Degree (2.2 or higher) in Civil or Structural Engineering (Level 8 NFQ) or equivalent.
* Hold a valid driving license with access to transport for travel across Ireland.
* Strong knowledge of Civil/Structural Engineering principles.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Understanding of health, safety, and welfare in construction/maintenance.
* 2 years' experience in operations/maintenance, including 1 year managing staff.
* Knowledge of environmental issues in waterways development.
* Understanding of working across two jurisdictions.
