Head of Commercial Estimating - Data Centres

Our client, one of the largest prefabricated M&E manufacturers across the UK & Ireland is looking to hire a Head of Commercial Estimating. On their Projects within the Data Centre Sector, they assume the role of Specialist Prefab M&E Contractor, meaning they have control of all elements of the build- Design, BIM Management & coordination, Manufacture of: (Chilled Water Distribution Systems, LTHW Distribution Systems, Plantrooms, Electrical Distribution Modules) Delivery to projects across the continent, Site installation, Testing and handover to client.
Core Responsibilities of role:
1. Develop and lead the estimation team for the data centre business.
2. Be the go-to person for all things estimating within the department and take ownership of department priorities and resourcing.
3. Direct and assist estimating team in their day-to-day activities.
4. Evaluate and risk review tender opportunities to assess viability of client requests.
5. Establish estimation processes and systems to streamline and improve our day-day department operations.
6. Grow the existing team into a dedicated data centre resource within the organisation.
7. Lead weekly meetings to coordinate resources, report on status updates, identify resourcing bottlenecks and any other risks/opportunities required to ensure the efficient operation of the department.
8. Early client engagement to review scope and then prepare, issue and follow through to negotiation stage of bids alongside the senior team.
9. Review schematics & designs to identify the scope and develop a strategy/approach for how the job will be estimated.
10. Carry out detailed take offs from schematics & 3-D designs. Collate into material & labour quantities and apply rates to develop overall project costs.
11. Ability to learn, operate and manage estimating software package to ensure accurate costs are prepared for all new projects.
12. Analysis and estimation of value engineering opportunities to ensure bids are competitive.
13. Lead preparation of handover pack & attend internal post award meetings for successful projects to discuss & review breakdown of estimate with delivery team.
14. Lead the handover process from estimation to operations post project award ensuring accurate and detailed project summaries are delivered.
15. Be the go-to person within estimating for reviewing and understanding job performance reports for ongoing and completed works to ensure continuous improvement of departmental rates and job costing assumptions.
16. Lead on the review and understanding of job performance challenges by liaising with delivery teams to ensure team of estimators are always pricing works in line with how they are being delivered at site.
Essential Criteria:
17. Third level qualification in a Surveying or Cost Engineering discipline or can demonstrate an equivalent level of experience.
18. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior estimating management/commercial role, ideally within the M&E sector.
19. Commercially astute and ambitious.
20. High standard of organisational and time management skills.
21. Sound knowledge of general construction methods.
22. Working knowledge of labour, plant, materials and equipment rates.
23. High level of IT literacy, especially in Microsoft Packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
24. Excellent attention to detail.
25. Good communication skills.
26. Management experience.
