About Our Company
Your new company is involved in the construction and maintenance of roads, providing specialist services across Ireland on all road categories.
We are now seeking to recruit a Health & Safety Advisor that will be based in Galway. This role will involve reporting to the Group Health & Safety Manager and overseeing the Health and Safety function, ensuring compliance with all legal aspects of Health and Safety.
Responsibilities
* Health and Safety Culture:
o Develop, implement, and monitor the safety program to ensure compliance with all applicable government regulations and technical standards.
o Build relationships with all parties for the implementation of Safe T Cert/ISO 45001 management systems.
o Liaise with contracting teams to promote change management, legal compliance, behavioural-based safety, and a continual improvement approach.
* Site Audits and Inspections:
o Undertake scheduled Site Audit Inspections and communicate the results to site managers and the Health and Safety Manager.
o Identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
* Safety Presentations and Training:
o D delivering safety presentations to staff and customers.
o Provide induction training, toolbox talks, and other necessary training.
* Legislative Compliance and Reporting:
o Monitor legislative compliance and communicate requirements and upcoming changes.
o Prepare reports as required, including accident investigations, audit reports, and management reviews.
* Management Reviews and Risk Assessment:
o Deliver and complete statutory notifications to the H.S.A.
o Act as a company representative at project meetings and safety meetings.
* Hazard Identification and Risk Management:
o Manage and coordinate hazard identification and risk assessment, chemical risk assessment, machinery, and maintenance programs.
* Health and Safety Awareness Activities:
o Participate in and assist in coordinating Health and Safety awareness activities, including annual seminars, safety communications meetings, Global Safety Week, safety promotions, notice boards, group meetings, and events.
* Document Review and Updates:
o Review and update Health and Safety documents, including procedures, safety statements, risk assessments, etc.
* Advice and Monitoring:
o Provide advice, monitoring, and recording compliance and non-compliance on HEALTH & SAFETY matters.
* Inspections and Audits:
o Plan frequent HEALTH & SAFETY inspections and audits, ensuring coverage of all activities and in line with company protocols.
o Systematically record and maintain HEALTH & SAFETY inspection and audit reports.
Education and Experience
The successful applicant will have:
* A degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Safety and Health, Construction, Engineering, or a related field.
* Professionally qualified – minimum Level 7/Diploma or Equivalent.
* Managing Safely in Construction is desirable.
* Experience in auditing (and/or Safe T Cert) and working knowledge of SHWWA 2005 and associated Legislation.
* Micorsoft Office skills including Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint.
* Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment.
* More than 3 years' experience in Safety & Health in quarrying, road maintenance, construction, or related industries.
* Experience of dealing with representatives of regulators.
* Good communication, leadership, and teamwork skills, working at all levels in the organisation.
* Flexibility.
* A willingness to travel around Connacht.
* A willingness to be flexible in their schedule.
