Senior Pharmacist - Waterford
We are currently recruiting a Senior Pharmacist to provide effective, efficient, and safe pharmaceutical care to all patients. This is a full-time, permanent position.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
* Ensure the highest priority is assigned to the care and safety of patients at all times.
* Understand, model, and promote the hospital's core values.
* Participate in delivering and developing clinical pharmacy services, including prescription review, patient education, and documentation of clinical interventions.
* Assist in managing the Dispensary's efficient operation, participating in and supervising the procurement, storage, supply, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals and related items.
* E nsure best pharmaceutical practice, adhering to legal and ethical requirements and best practice standards for Pharmaceutical services.
* Maintain complete and accurate records relating to procurement, storage, compounding, quality control, dispensing, distribution, and destruction of medicinal and pharmaceutical products, following best practice standards and applicable legislation.
* Achieve and maintain competence in using and administering the Oncology/Haematology clinical information system (ARIA).
* Become fully conversant with best practices and relevant competency frameworks for delivering Oncology/Haematology Pharmacy services.
* Support the Chief Pharmacist in safely and cost-effectively introducing new medications onto the hospital formulary, providing expert advice and education as necessary.
* Participate in developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) required for Pharmacy services and ensure these are updated and implemented according to changing practices locally, nationally, and internationally, and in accordance with Pharmacy law.
* Contribute to providing medicines information and advice on drug availability, appropriate use, and safe administration.
* Participate in developing medical information resources for clinical colleagues and patients, e.g., patient information leaflets, monographs, policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
* Collaborate with Pharmacy colleagues and the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to optimize Pharmacy and Medication Management and Use workflows.
* Identify and address medication management system deficiencies and processes where applicable.
* Highlight any discrepancies, incidents, or deficits in services to the Chief Pharmacist, Lead Technician, and Director of Pharmacy as necessary.
* Report and encourage reporting on incidents/near misses to support risk management and inform quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Be registered with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland or be entitled to register.
* Possess specialized knowledge and ability, including high suitability and management ability, for the proper discharge of duties.
* Show evidence of ongoing continuing professional development and role-specific learning.
* Demonstrate excellent planning, organizational, and resource management skills.
* Demonstrate excellent leadership, interpersonal, and people management skills.
* Show experience in change management and quality improvement initiatives.
Salary:
€60,000 - €80,000 per annum
This is an excellent remuneration package available to the successful applicant.
