St Canice’s Credit Union Ltd is inviting applications for the role of Chief Operations Officer (COO) based in the heart of Kilkenny. This is a rare opportunity to join a dynamic leadership team and play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our long-term strategic vision.
St Canice’s Credit Union is a large community credit union with nine branches across Kilkenny, Laois and Carlow. With over 70,000 members and a diverse product base, St Canice’s Credit Union has an ambitious strategic plan to significantly develop and grow the business, and the role of COO will play a key part in this growth.
The ideal candidate will collaborate with the CEO to design, implement, and evolve our credit union’s vision for sustained growth and excellence. Responsibilities include overseeing key operational areas including member services/operations, marketing & business development, and people management, ensuring seamless functionality and operational success. Elevate the member experience by collaborating with member services teams to provide exceptional service, build strong relationships, and enhance member satisfaction. Ensure excellence by developing and enforcing policies, and championing performance standards across all departments.
The Key Responsibilities of the position are:
* The Chief Operations Officer will report directly to the CEO and will lead and champion the strategic plan of St Canice’s Credit Union, participating in senior level discussions and making recommendations regarding major policy decisions.
* Strategic Leadership: ensure exceptional service delivery to members while aligning with the Credit Union’s strategic objectives to achieve the highest standards of excellence.
* Insightful Reporting: provide timely and comprehensive management reports on operational KPIs, delivering actionable insights that drive performance improvements.
* Inspirational Team Leadership: cultivate a high-performing team through effective performance management and development processes, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous growth.
* Exemplary Leadership: continuously act as a role model leader, demonstrating the highest standards of professionalism, ethical management, integrity, and honesty.
* Report on, initiate and assist in the creation of process improvements to ensure relevant systems are in place.
* Lead and manage the teams through an effective performance management and development process.
* Liaise with the Risk and Compliance departments to process, identify, monitor, and manage potential operational risks.
* Ensure adequate internal controls are in place and tested to safeguard the assets of the Credit Union.
* ESG Leadership: champion the Credit Union’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) agenda, developing and executing strategies to support sustainability.
* Oversee all relevant policies, procedures, and systems are implemented and updated as appropriate.
* Resource Management and workforce planning across the relevant teams.
* Service enhancement, growth in revenues, growth by acquisitions, growth in non-face-to-face products and services.

Requirements
* The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in Business, Business Management, or a related field with relevant managerial experience within the Credit Union movement or a related financial institution.
* A minimum of 5 years’ relevant operational managerial and leadership experience within the financial services sector and experience in dealing with regulatory authorities is essential.
* Possess exceptional people management, communication, motivational, and interpersonal skills.
* Proven project management experience, leading and managing projects to successful completion.
* Drive and energy, desire to get results, ability to take action, to get things done, and have a strong action-oriented approach.

* Demonstrate ability to devise, espouse, and implement a strategic vision and change management.
