Job Title: QA Test Engineer
Contract Position, 6 months
We are seeking an experienced QA Test Engineer to join our team in Cork. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical testing background and an interest in moving towards a development role or some level of production support background, especially in a web-based system.
The successful candidate will work closely with both the software development teams and management to ensure that high-quality software is delivered and existing production systems are maintained.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide input and leadership to the project team on best practice (estimating, designing, developing and executing test procedures and test cases).
2. Offer guidance to the project team on functionality and quality related to the testing approach.
3. Report regularly on test metrics and escalate issues as necessary.
4. Review specification documents with the project team to create accurate and comprehensive test plans.
5. Ensure deployed software meets expectations through frequent reviews with the project team on testing status and results.
6. Maintain competence in test automation and tracking tools to maximize productivity during regression and performance testing phases.
7. Recommend and develop improvements to the current testing process.
8. Manage priorities and set expectations when faced with multiple demanding tasks.
9. Take ownership of incoming support issues and learn to apply simple production fixes or direct to the correct internal resource.
10. You may be required to work beyond the normal working day to meet project deadlines.
11. You may be required to perform additional duties to support the testing function.
Required Skills/Experience:
1. A minimum of 4 years' cumulative experience in system testing, with emphasis on web-based testing.
2. Strong testing background with experience writing test plans and procedures.
3. Experience with regression, integration, and system-level test execution.
4. Proficiency in test automation tools such as Visual Studio Team System (Test Edition), HP Quick Test Professional, Selenium, or similar tools.
5. Working knowledge of performance/load testing tools (Visual Studio Team System (Test Edition) or similar).
6. Experience using defect tracking tools.
7. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
8. Ability to understand application architecture and identify issue locations.
9. Experience handling data and understanding of SQL would be beneficial.
10. Self-starter with analytical and problem-solving skills.
11. Ability to take ownership and drive problems to resolution.
12. Track record of achieving results and maintaining high standards.
13. Experience working with different teams and technologies, with the ability to test across multiple projects.
14. Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team.
15. Strong oral and written communication skills for individual and team settings.
16. Desire to develop personal knowledge through workshops and technical publications.
17. Experience communicating directly with clients.
18. Candidates must be eligible to work in Ireland and hold a Stamp 4 visa.
