The Role:
IMR is seeking a CNC Technician to play a support role in building and developing the organisation’s capability and research capacity to meet the growing needs of the centre and its industrial research partners in the area of Precision Machining. The successful candidate will get the opportunity to explore the latest technologies from machines to software and be involved in research projects in the area of Precision Engineering.
The successful candidate must demonstrate considerable experience in manufacturing environments with a hands-on approach. The ideal candidate should also be able to demonstrate a keen interest in the latest developments in CNC Machining and have a desire to work with the latest technology in the market.
The successful candidate will be a highly-motivated self-starter, requiring little direction, and be results-oriented and go the extra mile to get the job done. The successful candidate should also be highly customer-oriented, adaptable and efficient, and not afraid to take a hands-on approach.

Purpose of the Job:
To manage and produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating CNC machinery, maintain quality, safety and environmental standards, keeping records, maintaining equipment and consumables in a busy manufacturing research environment.
Responsibilities:
Area:
* Gain an in-depth understanding of and be responsible for the maintenance and operation of IMR’s precision machining equipment and capability.
* Follow standard operating procedures in the operation of diverse equipment, such as multi axis CNC milling and CNC turning, and other ancillary equipment relevant to the manufacturing process.
* Utilise work instructions to comply with Health and Safety regulation including working with Lean practices and support for 5S implementation ensuring the site is “customer ready” at all times.
* Support on centre activities related to events and other technology expansion areas.
* Recommend and source new equipment and machinery purchases. Participate in the process from sourcing to installation.
* Liaise with vendors in selecting required materials and ensure adequate stock is available.
Projects and Research:
* Be creative and have the ability to work on your own initiative, being able to interpret abstract concepts and demonstrate analytical capabilities to deliver solutions.
* Planning & problem solving abilities.
* Perform tasks supporting engineers with decision making on research projects.
* Interact directly with customers through demonstrations, presentations of clarifying reports in relation to projects.
* Ability to explore and apply new CAM strategies.
* Ability to read and interpret drawings and knowledgeable in geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
* Engage with companies collaborating on research projects supporting implementation of project plans.
Required Skills and Experience:
* At least 3 years' experience working in a manufacturing environment
* A hands-on practical mechanical attitude
* Demonstrable knowledge of CNC machine operation with knowledge of Fanuc, Siemens or Heidenhain controllers.
* Strong organisational and communication skills.
* Proficient with office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
* EU work permit
Desirable:
* Engineering qualification
* Experience with Heidenhain TNC 640, Fanuc 31i controllers
* Proficient in the use of CAM software such as Hypermill, Solidcam etc.
Location:
IMR offices are located in Rathcoole Co Dublin and Mullingar Co Westmeath. This role is based in our Mullingar site. Travel between offices and client sites will be required from time to time.
We offer a hybrid working model to suit candidates. Irish residency is required.
