The person will be experienced, motivated, energetic and results driven. Main responsibilities will be to lead the test management/execution, test automation and operational support of broadband access CPE devices within VM IE network. Increasing the level of automation and reducing manual test execution coverage while also maintaining lab environment setup will be key in this role. We are seeking a CPE & Automation Engineer with strong expertise in Python scripting and test automation using Robot Framework or similar. This role will focus on developing, executing, and maintaining automated test cases for CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) firmware and software. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of networking, be able to debug automation platforms, and contribute to CI/CD test pipelines.Specific Duties & Tasks:Engineer with responsibility for testing and integration of hardware and software CPE solutions across fixed access technologies (Cable, FTTH, XGS-PON) on Virgin Media Ireland network.Serve as a subject matter expert for Broadband CPE technologies and automation frameworks. Speak as a representative for the CPE Engineering team in dealings with various stakeholders.Black box testing and approval of CPE devices and supported firmware in delivery of VM broadband product portfolioFunctional and regression testing within Agile cadence software release cyclesManual and automated execution of test cases across CPE platform.Triaging of new issues/bugs and tracking of existing issues.Participate in weekly standup/web meetings to report progress on testing and bug tracking and verificationSupporting customer trial issue investigation/resolution in respect of CPE platform. Act as a Tier3 escalation point for production CPE faults and issues.SME with overall responsibility within the CPE team for test automation delivery including:Automation Development & Debugging:Design, develop, and maintain test automation frameworks using Robot Framework and Python.Write and execute automated test cases for CPE firmware, networking protocols, and system integration testing.Debug automation platform issues, troubleshoot test failures, and enhance automation stability.Test Case Development & Execution:Develop end-to-end test cases for CPE devices (Wi-Fi routers, modems, gateways).Ensure full test coverage across regression, functional, and performance testing.Work closely with development teams to improve test case efficiency and coverage.Scripting & CI/CD Integration:Create and optimise Python scripts for test automation, data parsing, and system monitoring.Integrate test automation with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI) to enable continuous testing.Maintain test logs, reports, and dashboards for test execution tracking.Debugging & Issue Resolution:Investigate test failures, firmware issues, and automation script bugs.Work closely with vendor, LG and test teams to resolve issues efficiently.Enhance logging, debugging tools, and automation efficiency.Collaboration & Documentation:Document test strategies, automation processes, and debugging techniques.Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and contribute to automation best practices.Work with cross-functional teams to improve CPE test automation and quality standards.Skills & Expertise:Relevant third level qualification in an Engineering /Telecoms related discipline, or an equivalent combination of training and experienceA minimum 3 years’ experience within technical telecoms environment with exposure to test automation platforms.Knowledge and hands-on experience with protocols such as IPv4, IPv6, DS-Lite, L2VPN, RIP, SIP, erouter, TR-069, SNMP, Wi-Fi, Mesh.
