Position Overview:
Ballywater Logistics Recruitment is seeking a highly skilled and safety-focused Driver Trainer and Safety Officer on behalf of one of our trusted clients. Key Responsibilities:
1. Driver Induction and Training:
1. Conduct thorough induction programs for new drivers, ensuring alignment with company policies, safety standards, and operational goals.
2. Provide tailored ongoing training for current drivers, focusing on areas such as eco-driving, tachograph usage, and manual handling.
3. Design and deliver customized training sessions to address unique organisational needs.
2. Safety Leadership:
1. Take ownership of health and safety management, ensuring compliance with all industry standards and legal requirements.
2. Conduct regular site and vehicle safety checks, identifying and mitigating potential risks.
3. Develop, implement, and communicate risk assessments to drivers and staff.
4. Maintain readiness for audits and health and safety inspections.
3. Driver Assessment and Monitoring:
1. Regularly assess the performance and safety compliance of both new and existing drivers.
2. Ride along with drivers on their routes to observe practices and provide actionable feedback.
3. Monitor eco-driving behaviors to improve fuel efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
4. Collaboration and Communication:
1. Partner with HR and the Transport Manager to address training needs, performance issues, and compliance.
2. Cultivate a positive, safety-first culture through clear and consistent communication.
5. Compliance and Documentation:
1. Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of driver training, safety checks, and risk assessments.
2. Ensure all documentation complies with legal and industry standards.
3. Act as the organisation’s First Aid Responder and ensure all staff are familiar with emergency procedures.
4. Provide training and support to prepare the team for any potential health and safety emergencies.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Extensive experience as an HGV driver with a clean driving record.
2. Certified CPC Instructor and Manual Handling Instructor (preferred but not mandatory).
3. First Aid Responder qualification (preferred but not mandatory).
4. Strong expertise in creating and implementing risk assessments.
5. In-depth knowledge of tachograph usage and regulations.
6. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant record-keeping software.
7. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage drivers and management effectively.
8. Exceptional organisational skills and keen attention to detail.
9. A proactive, safety-first mindset and passion for developing others through training.
Working Schedule:
Core hours: Monday to Friday, with flexibility to accommodate early mornings, late evenings, and occasional weekends as required for driver availability.
Typical shifts: 06:00 AM to 03:00 PM or 09:00 AM to 06:00 PM.
Example: Conduct driver training sessions on Saturdays or outside standard hours to meet operational needs.
Compensation and Benefits:
Competitive salary: €45,000 to €50,000 annually (negotiable based on experience).
