Salary: Appointment will be made on Domestics Scale (€34,240 - €40,379) at a point in line with Government pay policy.
Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week

Position Summary
The physical environment, facilities and resources are managed to minimise the risk of infection to service users, staff and visitors. This post is intended to support the nursing staff at ward level to meet the hygiene standards expected under the national hygiene audit scheme. The main areas of concern to this post are patient equipment, safe handling and disposal of linen, safe handling and disposal of sharps, safe handling and disposal of waste, hand hygiene facilities, and the general environment.
Responsibilities
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Non patient care: Keep ward and area clean and tidy as per ward cleaning schedules. Complete cleaning schedules as per unit policy and in compliance with hospital hygiene standards.
2. Management of Patient Equipment: Decontaminate all patient equipment after use, report any faulty equipment to Clinical Nurse Manager or senior nurse in charge, and adhere to daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules.
3. Ensure the correct cleaning solutions are used for decontaminating patient equipment and that they are properly labeled and stored.
4. Decontaminate beds, pillows, bed tables, and lockers after patient discharge and remove clutter from the patient’s bed area with consent.
5. Maintain the general environment: Ensure linen storage rooms, corridors, and patient waiting areas are clean and tidy, and liaise with cleaning staff for priority cleaning.
6. Safe Handling and Disposal of Linen: Ensure compliance with hospital policy regarding the safe handling and disposal of linen.
7. Safe Handling and Disposal of Waste: Follow hospital policy on waste handling, keep waste bins clean and report issues to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
8. Hand Hygiene Facilities: Ensure hand hygiene sinks are free from clutter and dispensers are refilled when empty.
9. Provision of Snacks to Patients: Prepare and serve snacks and beverages in Home Therapies Unit and Renal Day Care.
10. Communication: Provide clear verbal handover at shift end, report incidents promptly, and maintain a positive attitude towards colleagues and patients.
11. Ward Clean Utility Rooms: Assist nursing staff in ordering and maintaining stock in clinical areas.
12. Training: Attend in-service training as per hospital policy, including infection control and safe disposal of linen and waste.
Qualifications
Selection Criteria: Candidates must have at the latest date of application:
1. Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.: Eligible applicants will possess a Junior Certificate (or equivalent qualification) and have a minimum of 3 years working in a relevant industry.
2. Desirable: Previous hospital experience, personal initiative, clear communication skills, focus on quality service, and a willingness to improve.
