Role Overview The Group Financial Controller is a senior management role, responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the group and its subsidiaries.
Reporting directly to the Group CFO, this role involves managing finance team members, ensuring compliance with internal and external reporting requirements, and providing leadership on technical accounting matters.
The Group Financial Controller is also responsible for preparing and analysing financial statements, managing the budget and financial reporting cycle, and overseeing the annual audit engagement.
You will also collaborate closely with the Group CFO and Senior Leadership Team on commercial projects, providing financial insights and strategic support to drive business growth and profitability.
Job Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management :
Lead and mentor finance team members to ensure timely and accurate internal and external reporting.
Foster a collaborative environment to meet the reporting requirements of the group and its subsidiaries.
Technical Expertise & Guidance :
Provide expert guidance on technical accounting matters, offering clear direction on complex financial queries.
Ensure the team is up-to-date with the latest accounting standards and practices.
Financial Statements & Analysis :
Oversee the preparation, analysis, and presentation of group financial statements.
Ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Financial Forecasting & Planning :
Develop and maintain financial forecasts for the group.
Use data-driven insights to anticipate future financial trends and inform strategic planning.
Prepare detailed cash flow analyses for the Group CFO, ensuring proactive management of the group's liquidity
Audit & Compliance :
Oversee the annual audit process, ensuring all requirements are met on time.
Liaise with external auditors to facilitate a smooth audit engagement
Taxation & Compliance :
Manage the group's taxation affairs, ensuring timely and accurate tax returns.
Work closely with tax advisers to optimize tax strategies and compliance.
Governance, Controls & Processes :
Establish and maintain robust governance frameworks, internal controls, and processes.
Ensure these are vital in safeguarding the group's assets, maintaining financial integrity, and supporting sustainable growth
Strategic Financial Support :
Provide financial insights and strategic support to the Group CFO and senior leadership team.
Contribute to commercial projects aimed at driving business growth and profitability.
Risk Management :
Identify and manage financial risks across the group.
Develop strategies to mitigate these risks and ensure the group's financial stability
Stakeholder Communication :
Ensure transparent and effective communication regarding the group's financial performance and strategic initiatives
Technology & Innovation :
Leverage financial technology and innovative solutions to improve financial processes and reporting.
Stay updated with industry trends and incorporate best practices
Talent Development :
Focus on the professional development of the finance team.
Implement training programs and career development plans to build a high-performing team. Experience & Skills Required Excellent technical accounting skills & ability to deal with high level financial decisions. Strong commercial acumen with a demonstrable track record in commercial projects. Demonstrable experience working in a complex environment with a record of success.
Candidates must be a qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA) with a minimum of 5 years' relevant post qualification experience Ability to produce timely and insightful reports and disseminate key information to support decision making and multiple stakeholders across the business.
Demonstrable track record of implementing change through technology to achieve continuous financial function improvement and efficiencies. Ability to achieve and deliver to tight deadlines. Good working knowledge of Irish tax legislation. Track record of leading effective engagement with internal stakeholders.
This position can be located in either Cork or Dublin and The Irish Times Group operate a hybrid working policy.
