RPS is seeking applications for the position of Ecologists (terrestrial, ornithologists and/or aquatic specialisms) to join our Ecology Team in Ireland. There are positions available at a range of experience levels in our offices in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Kilkenny.
About The Team
Our Ecology Team (one of Ireland's leading teams in this sector) delivers high value technical advisory services in areas as diverse as EIA, AA, SEA, climate change and sustainability to clients across the transport, water, energy, natural and built environment sectors.
The RPS Ecology Team has a well-deserved reputation of successfully delivering many of Ireland's most challenging and complex projects through early stage development and contribution to national policies as part of the SEA process.
About The Role
The role involves supporting the delivery of ecological impact assessment (EciA), ecological surveys, Environmental Impact Assessment biodiversity chapters and Appropriate Assessment (AA), nature-based solutions and regenerative/restorative designs.
You will be working under the supervision of a lead ecologist on multi-disciplinary projects across a wide range of sectors and liaising with clients and other relevant stakeholders.
About You
Candidates will have substantial experience working in a consultancy / regulatory role in the environmental assessment field. Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or similar is desirable.
Key Skills/Attributes
* A hard working and highly motivated individual with good interpersonal skills and team approach;
* Excellent field skills and a keen interest and understanding of Irish wildlife;
* Demonstrated field survey experience in ecology e.g. habitat classification (Fossitt), badger, otter, bat, bird and invasive species surveys;
* Familiar with relevant Irish and European legislation e.g. Habitats Directive, Birds Directive, EIA Directive, and transposing Irish Regulations;
* Knowledge of Appropriate Assessment as per Article 6 of the Habitats Directive;
* Ability to record and process data efficiently and methodically;
* Experienced in using GIS/ mapping systems;
* Full clean driving licence and access to their own vehicle.
Qualifications
* A postgraduate qualification in a relevant biological/ environmental science subject with an ecological component which includes practical experience;
* Degree in Ecology.
* A Master's in relevant field is desirable but not required.
