The Physiotherapy Service provides a service to all the specialties in CUH/CUMH & St. Finbarr's Hospital.
CUH is a regional centre for neurosurgery, plastic and burns, cardiothoracic surgery, haematology, cystic fibrosis and is the location for trauma orthopaedics in Cork.
CUH is the largest multi-specialty site in the country.
CUH physiotherapy department has a staff of over 70wte providing services across inpatients, outpatients & outreach.
Fiona Campbell is Physiotherapy Manager In-Charge III.
The deputy physiotherapy manager with responsibility for CUMH is Liz Barry.
Gay Castles is the other deputy manager.
There are clinical specialists in Respiratory, FIT, Pathfinder, Neurology/ neurosciences, stroke, Rheumatology, Orthopaedic fracture clinic and Pelvic health.
There are senior and rotational staff grade physiotherapists and 5 physiotherapy assistants.
There are 8-10 undergraduate physiotherapy students on site at any given time.
We provide a weekend priority respiratory service.
We also provide a weekend priority discharge & mobility service.
CUH is a regional centre for the care of adult & paediatric CF patients.
Physiotherapy plays an integral role in the multidisciplinary team.
The postholder will treat a combination of in & outpatient CF service users.
There may also be some home visits required.
The caseload will include completion of annual assessments & close monitoring of service users who are on new medication to treat their condition.
As the management of CF evolves, the physiotherapy management of these service users changes accordingly with an increasing emphasis on lifestyle changes, exercise, weight management as well as managing any respiratory symptoms.
Management of associated urinary incontinence issues may also be part of this role.
